A Capital City with a Small Town Charm
The charming Slovenian capital, Ljubljana is the only large city in the country. Dominated by the Castle Hill with Medieval Ljubljana Castle on top, the city is a picturesque Balkan mix of architectural styles, romantic bridges and scenic views.
Due to two major earthquakes in 1511 and 1895, which destroyed many buildings, the Old Town features a range of styles: from Roman period, through Medieval Baroque to Vienna Secession. Ljubljana is a beautiful city with so much to see and do for the few days that we stayed, the people are so friendly and it feels totally safe to walk around, day and night, the food was excellent, so fresh didn’t have a bad meal. Cafe culture is second to none, the ambience and atmosphere makes this city a must see, We walked around the markets, craft and food We visited vintgar Gorge this was truly stunning a lot of walking involved so not good for less able The trail was very well maintained and safe even supplied hard hats Then on to lake Bled, this was stunning, we enjoyed the boat ride across to the island Afterwards we went to lake Bohinj again another beautiful peaceful place to visit. Very charming.Little but lovely with so many places to see...It is a most humanic city..not big and not too small.It has all you need...beautiful river and lot's of bridges,caffe's restaurants and great selection of food and drinks.I can't wait to visit again.

Ljubljana was fantastic, especially coming from Australia, it was so unlike what we were used to and I kept saying…. “It’s like we are walking inside a fairytale”. We were so enchanted with the place, the restaurants and bars in the city Centre were so classy and beautifully lit that it made us want to go into each of them, which of course we couldn’t do… buy hey… there’s always a next time. The castle also was well above our expectations… beautifully modernized in a way that was sympathetic to the original building. There are a couple of seriously good restaurants up there too but, for this trip, we only made it as far as the cafe. /coffee shop. If you go to the cafe make sure you go down the stairs to the toilets, they are within a super cool jazz bar, I’d have loved to have gone there in the evening for a show - not many jazz bars in the world would be set within a 400 year old castle I reckon.

Unfortunately my experience was affected by three days of rain. It appeared to me that the city was pleasant enough without being filled with enough sights for a three day visit. The river was half a block away and everything in Ljubljana’s beautiful old town was an easy walk (yet somehow it was extremely quiet). The apartment was clean and comfortably fit our family of 5. The staff were absolutely amazing. Friendly and extremely accommodating. We would not hesitate to recommend this apartment hotel and would definitely stay here again.
