It was good contemporary design while being respectful of traditional architecture. The position was fabulous, and the room all that I needed. Beautiful public bath house on the top floor.

Old, tired, mold in bathrooms, no English speaking staff, over priced, breakfast almost all Japanese food and quality wasn’t very good. Don’t stay at this place unless you pay approximately $50/night.

Beppu has a great vibe, especially the area around Beppu Station and the area near the "hells". The sight of water vapour rising between all the buildings is truly something. But aside from the hells and the hot springs there is not that much more to do in the city itself. So 2-3 days should definetely be enough for people who have a limited amount of time in Japan. The city of Yufu one hour busride from Beppu and certainly worth a visit. There are a couple of other great places in Oita Prefecture worth visiting but those are a little bit hard to access without a car.

Beppu is one of the best cities I visited, it is a city is in the middle of sea and mountain. There is a lot of Onsen where you can be easy to find around the city, Beppu is called " City of Onsen".
You can relax and release any daily tired at the onsen bath (especially if you bath onsen pool outside)
Furthermore, you can go to viewpoint to see the Beppu city and mountain view.
It is a good memory to visit there.

The seven hells of Beppu (Jigoku) are really great to fill a day. You can have a nice walk along the shoreline and the mall near the bay offers a great shopping opportunity. There are a few good restaurants that you can enjoy. The neighborhood around the Jigoku is quite nice, the rest of Beppu not so much. Two or three days are enough for this town.

We didn't have enough time to see other onsen areas.
We didn't have enough time to see other onsen areas. We did not rent a car so we traveled by bus. We did not get to see the onsen areas as I did want to try some of the other ryokan onsens. The only problem I had was with the stools that you sit on to swcrub yourself.

I really enjoyed the hot springs!
I really enjoyed the hot springs! I went to Hyotan Onsen and did the hot springs and sand bath. the sand bath was a little underwhelming but the hot springs was perfect! there was also a waterfall bath which was a nice experience. the sand bath was a "do it yourself" situation where you dig a hole and cover yourself. it was nice; i recall i fell asleep. It was a little underwhelming; i would do just the hot springs again though! Also, the sand bath area was kind of small and co-ed, 7-8 rows and probably fit 4 people per row. Other than that, Hyotan had a dining restaurant and tried the cold ramen; refreshing after a nice hot dip! Getting around Beppu was easy for me. i was mostly around just the hot spring area and the area of the 7 devil hot springs (which i ran out of time and did not get to do all but was happy i got to do at least 5). the area was also kind of hilly... so one may be walking uphill a bit but no big deal, not a steep incline. Overall, Beppu was a great experience and I would come back for the hot springs as it's what the town is known for!
The staff was very friendly but most of them only know Japanese. There was a private onsen in our room and also one onsen half outside which could be used in private. The third big onsen was public.
The room was very spacious and clean with a beautiful traditional Japanese look. You also get Yukatas you can wear for breakfast or when you go to the onsen.
The breakfast was very traditional Japanese (rice, miso soup, fish).
Close to all tourist spots of Beppu (15 minute walk to Beppu Hells, the observatory deck, Oita fragrance museum, …)!
A nice hotel just 10 minutes from the Beppu Train Station. (Exitcon the east side (higasi) and follow the main road straight ahead to the "T" intersection. Turn left and the red brick hotel is on the right). The hotel is relatively modern and very clean. Our room was reasonably sized. The onsen is split between men and women, with a warmer tub inside and hotter outside. The Japanese breakfast buffet had many, good selections. There is a shopping area close by with many restaurant options.
Very lovly traditional Japanese hotel with both Tatami and western style sitting area. Only 6 or so rooms and both in room onsen and hotel onsen(private and larger than inroom onsen). Dinner and breakfast are both excellent. We stayed for two days and the menu's are different. Staff speaks good English and very friendly. The hotel is about 20 minutes walk from the center of the he'll onsen. But the walk is very lovely.
While the whole Hotel is charming and the private onsen and Japanese style rooms are exactly what I came for , I was positively surprised by the extremely high quality of dinner and breakfast.
Both dinner menues were exquisite and easily rank in the top 3 dinners I had this year. Room and bath were well kept and clean, very comfortable futon (not too soft).
Staff made sure to make me feel welcome.
Super clean hotel. They even clean the wheels of all of our luggages and make us take off our shoes before we get inside the hotel. Super clean room and still new to me. Nice onsen with the seaview (too bad it was raining so we could not enjoyed the view). Great breakfast and all the staffs at the restaurant were so nice, kind, and friendly.
The room was phenomenal, from the amazing view of Beppu from the terrace to the private onsen overlooking the city below. The staff was incredibly nice and thoughtful and catered to our every need. Probably one of the best experiences I've had in Japan! To top it all off, the restaurant serves amazing food in an intimate setting.
What a great hotel! The rooftop pool is amazing as are the communal baths, great views of the city and coastline. The location is very convenient if you need to grab the train/bus, it's within walking distance of some famous onsen and the sea. The yukatas were great and the beds comfy. The rooms were a good size for Japan.
very beautiful, retro inn with a super nice owner. three great private baths with onsen water. very clean!
Beppu station is just around the corner.
very beautiful garden and spacious rooms. futons have thin mattresses so it’s not so painful to sleep on the floor. i will definitely stay there again!
Yamada Bessou is a traditional Japanese house which eludes serenity and grace. The rooms
were well equipped and was very clean. The onsen facilities were exceptional and excellent. The hotel manager was very friendly and helpful and it made me feel like home. I will come back again.
The most wonderful stay at an old Japanese style house! Very kind and lovely hosts. Onsen/bathhouse just directly in front of the house. Was a very special and beautiful experience. I would like to stay there again, when coming to Beppu next time. Thank you!
We stayed 1 night in Nogami Honkan which is 7 minutes away from Beppu Station. Our room was big with tatami beds for 4. We paid 500 yen for private onsens and the morning Japanese breakfast was a wonderful experience.
Excellent location just outside Beppu station. Very friendly staff. Welcome drinks, buffet breakfast and in-house onsen. What more can you ask?? Definitely the best hotel on our trip in Japan.
Location as it’s opposite Beppu Station. The hot spring or Japanese called it Onsen was very good. The staff are friendly though very limited English speaking.
