Tranquil, beautiful, historic, scenic, very nice people,...
Tranquil, beautiful, historic, scenic, very nice people, long promenades by the sea and non commercial port, and calm, including the drivers. The centro is old, has winding streets, an immense castle/fort, an 11th century cathedral (you dont meet them often), and a small old Byzantine chapel - San Pietro - with a custoduan who will give you a description in writing for free to help you understand the surviving frescos which will keep you there longer than you'll probably spend in the cathedral. Many reasons to take photos at every turn, down streets, out from town, then from the peninsula, with its new builds and one very old church, of the town, especially at night. Many restaurants with out door patios and a variety of prices, great fresh fish & seafood selections. Beaches and concrete piers from which to swim, down from the promenade that skirts the old town/centro. When's the last time you went to vist the historic centre of a town and said gee i wish i'd brought my bathing suit & a towel. And a lot of free parking lots with a lot of spaces a short walk to the old centro citta. When i come back to Puglia, i'm staying a week in Otranto for all these reasons, especially if i've been to & drove in Lecce, Galipoli, Monte Sant'Angelo or Taranto

Having grown up at Otranto Place, Sandycove, Dublin, I had always wanted to visit! Unlike its Dublin namesake, it is a little down at heel, BUT I loved it all the more! Has character, history, cultural sights to see (the castle made famous by Horace Walpole and the amazing Tree of Life mosaic in the Cathedral). A town beach and nearby to other lovely beaches & beach clubs. Lots of good meals but two exceptional places - Frontemare, on the sea front and very cute L'Ortale in the heart of the old town. Stayed at Relais Valle Dell'Idro, 8 mins walk out of the old town, charming and good value.

It is a very nice little city with lots of restaurants and bars for any kind of public. The sea has a wonderful colour, it is super clean (at least while we were there) and behind the lighthouse there is a super beach with rocks, it looks simply GREAT.

We enjoyed walking around the town and beach area.
We enjoyed walking around the town and beach area. We travelled to the Bauxite Lake which was nearby and hiked around it and then down to the ocean. A highlight was going south and swimming in the Adriatic and Ionian Seas. We hired a boat for the two of us for 3 hours for 60 Euros. It was absolutly amazing and the grotto's were beautiful. The water color was just amazing! A highlight of our trip to southern Italy.

It is a really attractive town, with pretty streets, a castle and a lovely old cathedral. The cathedral has some spectacular Byzantine floor mosaics. In grim contrast, the Martyrs Chapel contains the bones of 800 Christians massacred by the Turks in 1480. We spent an enjoyable couple of hours exploring and ended up for a good mojito and beer on the front.
The hosts, Nana & Franco, were most gracious and attentive. From the moment we arrived they welcomed and made us feel like family. Nana’s special gift for baking spoiled us to daily fresh tarts & breakfast sweets which we enjoyed on the veranda. the accommodations where spotless, modern, comfortable and within walking
distance to the beach, town & restaurants. the host also provided valuable recommendations on restaurants and sites to visit. we truly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend staying at Vele d’Otranto.
The location is perfect for people who look for a quiet place near the beach, away from the hustle and bustle. It is only a 3-4 minutes walk to the beautiful beach and a 10-minute drive to Otranto. The room was spacious and nice, perfectly clean. The breakfast is clearly better than the Italian average in similar hotels, products were of a very good quality. The pool was clean and nice, staff very friendly. Dinner was good, but not extraordinary. Great restaurants within 5-10 minutes drive from the hotel.
Claus was the best host you could have. Communication was exceptionally good, he welcomed me and showed me around the city and beautiful spots around the city, he gave me the best tips about places to visit and dinner spots and he just makes you feel like home and that you belong there! The location is perfect the room is super big and comfortable, amazing bed! And best breakfast Views from the rooftop! It is definitely an amazing place to stay in Otranto, you fall in love with it! Grazie Claus!
I liked everything. The architecture is amazing, the decoration is so cute, careful and elegant. The whole hotel extremely clean and the staff lovely. Thanks so much for all of their care. The breakfast was the best I had in Italy. Quality and elegance in the entire place. Congratulations to the owner. What was the most perfect thing is that the owner knows how to preserve the antique structure and have modern features and utilities. Amazing.
We come to Otranto every year with our toddler and we love the city and always have a great time. The apartment is in a wonderful location and is very spacious, it’s an older apartment but newly furnished with a new kitchen. Lots of room, particularly if you have a family. You can see the sea from the balcony and it’s just a few short steps from one of the best beaches in Otranto and a short walk to lots of cafes and restaurants.
The room with private courtyard 2 comfortable chairs, curtains for privacy. The best breakfast in 8 weeks travel. The lift. English spoken. Simone, the Manager was so helpful in sorting out hassles with an airline ticket, and problems with booking. com
10 mins easy walk to old town.
Beautiful old stone farmhouse converted into Boutique Hotel. Best accomadation in 8 weeks travelling Italy.
Amazing food, super nice and skillful chef, strongly recommend the salt baked fresh fish. Their cooking class was a super experience, where we learned how to make 3 different type of handmade pasta. Nice bike ride from the hotel to Otranto. Staff was very helpful in terms of recommendation. Room was clean and the bed super comfy.
Having your own apartment with hotel amenities if wanted. Service was excellent, we were always directed to the best places to eat, beaches and boat tours. Location is close enough to town but far enough to get a bit of a break. Rooms were clean and spacious. Pool was great and appreciated having pool service as well.
Francesco was the best host! very responsive and share all the details and info prior to/during my stay. It is a nice location (you need a car to access though) where you can relax and rest peacefully and many places are accessible by car in 30mins. We are happy we stayed here for our trip!
Location very close to one of the best beaches in South Italy (10 min walk) and extremely nice / helpful attention by the host. Otranto is close by and has nice restaurants, shops and you can even swim in the port (extremely clean and safe).
The location of Hotel La Plancia is great. The view of the water is lovely. Gabriele is a fantastic host who communicates beautifully. His mother makes fabulous pastries for the nice breakfast buffet. The easy parking was a huge plus.
The location was fantastic, near the beach, restaurants, lots of attractions like the historic port and the old town.
Breakfast was good, the hotel have a rooftop view from the city. Everything was ok for a night in Otranto.
Great location - view of port and just steps from the old city. Great breakfast, a la carte. Very helpful staff, met us near the hotel and rode with us to show us the parking location, then walked us back to the hotel.
great location, just beside the magnificent cathedral .
Beautiful room with a very nice terrace. all staff members did their best to make it a most enjoyable stay for us.
The location was probably the best thing about the hotel. We ate breakfast and then everything for the rest of the day and night was within really easy reach.
Amazing pool and beautiful pear cacti. So close to the beach, wonderful bike ride into Otranto. The food was amazing. Everyone was so nice. Very relaxing.
Beautiful small hotel on the sea - perfect location in the Centro of Otranto. Terrace overlooking the harbor for breakfast and relaxing was a highlight.
